Is the procedure painful?

During placement, you feel nothing thanks to the local anaesthetic. Afterwards, the jaw may be tender for a few days, comparable to after a tooth extraction. Most patients are surprised by how mild it is. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are usually enough.
