My child is afraid of the dentist. What can I do?
Mention the anxiety when booking the appointment. We will then schedule extra time and start more calmly. Do not speak about the dentist at home in anxious or warning terms ("it won't hurt" just arouses suspicion). You could read a picture book about a visit to the dentist. And remember: your own attitude influences your child more than you think. If you are relaxed, that helps too.
